2019 Teachers of the Year
The Adminstration and Staff at Hammonton School Distict is honored to announce 2019's Teacher's of the Year!
Hammonton High School ~ Mrs. Maria Buono Higgins
Mrs. Maria Buono-Higgins has been an educator since 1989. She began her career in Camden, NJ, and worked at Overbrook Junior High School and Mullica Township Schools before starting at Hammonton High School in 2000. She earned her degree in Spanish from Millersville University in 1988 and completed her Italian degree from Thomas Edison University.
Buono-Higgins has been involved in several programs and committees, including the Migrant Program, the Instructional Management Team and the Professional Development Committee. She was the adviser for the World Language Club and Freshman Class adviser. She is currently the Varsity Head Cheerleading Coach for Fall and Winter. Buono-Higgins also enjoys chaperoning and attending school events such as the promenade, graduation, Senior trip and the Europe trip.
Buono-Higgins currently teaches College Prep Italian II and Honors Italian III.
She lives in Hammonton with her husband and three children, who provide her with lots of love and support.
Hammonton Middle School ~ Mr. Richard Baker
Mr. Baker is in his 7th year teaching at HMS. He teaches 8th grade Social Studies and serves on the Instructional Leadership team as a Professional Learning Community leader. He also is a member of the Trauma Informed Team and created and facilitates HMS Achieve, a mentoring program for at-risk youth. He guest speaks to ELA classes about his experiences touring concentration camps and his vast knowledge of the Holocaust before they begin reading novels and memoirs. He is a true team player at HMS and always gives his best to his students and colleagues.
Warren E. Sooy, Jr., Elementary School ~ Mrs. Lori Scibilia
Ms. Lori Scibilia is honored this year as Warren E. Sooy, Jr. Elementary School’s
Teacher of the Year!
Ms. Scibilia has a heart of gold. She is very kind, caring, thoughtful and compassionate. She embraces student diversity and does her very best to make each child feel special every single day.
Always professional, Ms. Scibilia continues to serve as our 2nd grade team leader. She volunteers her time to serve on our Olweus Committee, as well as our School Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Hammonton Education Foundation (HEF). Ms. Scibilia is smart, innovative and an all around highly effective educator. Each day, she goes above and beyond for our school. Ms. Scibilia is always involved in all aspects of education and is an important part of our school community.
Hammonton Early Childhood Education Center ~
Ms. Nereida Rosado
Ms. Nereida Rosado, bilingual first grade teacher, was named as ECEC's 2018-2019
Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Rosado began her career with the Hammonton School District in 2011. A graduate of Stockton University, she holds degrees in both Education and International Business. A lifelong learner, Ms. Rosado is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in ESL (English As A Second Language).
